A buzzer-beater loss for Dallas

DENVER – The Dallas Mavericks were on a verge of ending their losing streak, but the last second shot by Nikola Jokić put the Denver Nuggets 100-99. The Mavs lost their seventh straight game and 12th in their last 13 games. Dallas fought hard.

Luka Dončić gave Dallas a 99-98 lead with 5.8 seconds left in the game with a spectacular dunk. He got fouled on the play, but missed the free throw. When Jokić made the last second shot, Dončić blamed himself for the loss.

“I should have made the free-throw,” Dončić said. ”I felt like I let my team down. That’s not who I’m supposed to be. That’s not who I am. I just feel like I let them down. I should have made the free throw.”

Dončić finished with 24 points, 11 rebounds and was just an assist shy of a triple-double. “Everybody talks about next year, you know, and we’ve just got to build good habits,” Doncic said. “I think we have an amazing group of guys. I really enjoy playing with all of them. And we almost beat Denver, second in the West, at home. I’m really proud of my team.”

Dallas had five players in double figures. Dirk Nowitzki scored nine points and is now only 17 points away from Wilt Chamberlain on the all-time scoring list.

The Mavericks will host the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday.
