COACH CARLISLE VISITS LUKA IN LJUBLJANA
LJUBLJANA – Although the NBA season is far from over for the teams still fighting in the playoffs, the Dallas Mavericks finished their season almost four weeks ago. Luka Dončić played his last game in his rookie season against the Phoenix Suns when he scored another triple-double. Luka took a couple of weeks to rest after a tough first season and just resumed to practice a few days ago in his hometown Ljubljana. He had a special visit from Dallas to supervise his return to the floor. Dallas’ coach Rick Carlisle, assistant coach Jamahl Mosley and Mavs’ center Dwight Powell who came to see him in Slovenia. Carlisle plans to work with Luka throughout the summer.
Luka was pleased by the visit from Dallas and even more so that he returned to practice. “Dwight came from Dubai, while the coaches came from Dallas. All of them had a long trip to come here and I’m grateful to them. It is quite difficult. I had two weeks of rest and now we’re back to fitness and basketball. At first it was very demanding, but I felt really good from the start.”
Coach Carlisle was pleased as well and continues to emphasize the importance of this summer for Dončić. “It’s a big summer going into his second year. He’s obviously going to be one of our best players, one of our most important players. Every year his responsibility level will increase, so it’s important that he has a great summer in terms of conditioning and preparation.”
Dončić finished his rookie season with an incredible statistics. Carlisle believes his star rookie will win the Rookie of the Year Award. “I don’t have any doubt he’s going to be the Rookie of the Year in the NBA.”
