Dallas comes up short in Slovenian matchup

MIAMI – Game between the Dallas Mavericks and the Miami Heat was a treat. Especially for Slovenians fans who saw a matchup between two of their best basketball players Luka Dončić of the Dallas Mavericks and Goran Dragić of the Miami Heat for the first time.

Dragić outdueled Dončić in their first head-to-head meeting. Miami won 105-99. Dragić scored 23 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists for his second career triple-double. He started the game for the first time since returning in February from December knee injury. Dončić finished with 19 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.

It was a close game, Dallas led 82-75 into the final period, but the Heat outscored the Mavericks 30-17 in the last 12 minutes. The Mavericks held a one-point lead with less than three minutes to play, but Dwayne Wade made a step-back jumper and put the Head ahead. Miami never trailed again.

2,000 Slovenians traveled to Miami to see the matchup between Dončić and Dragić. The only two Slovenians in the NBA swapped jerseys after the game.

The game also represented the final meeting between Wade and Dirk Nowitzki. Wade finished the night with 11 points, while Nowitzki scored 13.

Dallas will play the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday.
