Mavs beat Oklahoma City without Dončić
OKLAHOMA CITY – Luka Dončić stayed back in Dallas nursing his right thigh contusion. The Slovenian wonderboy took a hard knee to the leg in game against the Miami Heat. The Dallas Mavericks were left no choice but to show who they are against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Mavericks overcame a triple-double by Russell Westbrook and shocked the Thunder, winning 106-103. Dallas has now won two of the last four games and is now 8-31 on the road.
Trey Burke came off the bench for the Mavs and scored 25 points and eight assists. But he wasn’t the only one who stepped up. Jalen Brunson finished with 18 points, Devin Harris had 15 points and Dwight Powell scored 11 points and nine rebounds. Dirk Nowitzki tallied seven points and collected a season-high 13 rebounds.
It was Brunson who gave the Mavs the lead for good with 21 seconds remaining.
“Look, our guys were fired up to play,” coach Rick Carlisle said. “Everybody played great. We ended up outrebounding them – which is really, really difficult.”
Dallas returns home for three games, beginning with the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday.
