Mavs beat the Cavs and end losing streak

DALLAS – The Dallas Mavericks finally ended their losing streak. After seven straight losses the Mavericks beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 121-116. Luka Dončić sat out the game due to a right knee contusion. He has now missed five games this season.

He did take the stage during halftime, when he received a trophy for winning the NBA Western Conference Rookie of the Month in February. It’s the fourth consecutive month Dončić has won this award.

Tim Hawdaway Jr. led Dallas with 22 points on his 27nd birthday. Dirk Nowitzki played a season-high 29 minutes and finished with 14 points. He is now only four points shy of overtaking Wilt Chamberlain and becoming 6th all-time leading scorer in NBA history. “I was going for it,” Nowitzki said. “I just didn’t have the hot hand down the stretch. I forced it, obviously, a little bit. I didn’t really have any great looks. We won the game and we’re moving on.”

In Dončić’s absence the Mavs stepped up. Seven players had double figures. Maxi Kleber came off the bench and finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds. He registered his second straight double-double.

The Mavs will host the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday.
