Mavs fall to the Timberwolves
DALLAS – The Dallas Mavericks lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in a close game 110-108. Luka Dončić was back after he missed the last two games with a right thigh injury. Dončić gave Dallas a late lead with a step-back 3, but passed a game winning shot 1.1 seconds left. Dončić was in position for another step-back attempt above the key, but passed the ball to Jalen Brunson who missed.
“For me it’s not a question,” Dončić said. “I trusted him. The whole team trusted him. It was a great shot. Sometimes it’s not going to go in.”
Dončić scored his 23rd double-double of the season with 27 points, 12 rebounds, six assists and one block. With those totals he’s guaranteed to finish the season averaging at least 20 points, seven rebounds and five assists per game. Only one other rookie has ever done that in NBA history, Oscar Robertson in 1960-61.
Dwight Powell finished a point off his career high with 25 points. Dirk Nowitzki, who has just two more home games remaining in what is expected to be the 40-year-old’s final season, scored nine points.
Dallas will play the Memphis Grizzlies at home on Friday.
