DALLAS – The Dallas Mavericks opened a year 2020 with a home victory against the Brooklyn Nets. The Mavericks were second straight game without Kristaps Porzingis and Tim Hardaway Jr. It was the bench who stepped up and helped Luka Dončić, who led the Mavs to win 123-111.

Dončić scored 31 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists. The second-year star from Slovenia barely missed his 10th triple-double of the season and 18th of his career.

Dončić showed why he is the leading vote-getter in All-Star balloting with 1.073 million votes. Giannis Antetokounmpo is close second and LeBron James is third. Last year the Rookie of the Year received the third-most fan votes for the All-Star game, but failed to make the team.

Dallas continues its six-game homestand on Saturday against the Charlotte Hornets.
