He started to attend the Union Olimpija Basketball School in 2006.
Among his fellows he progressed faster and more visible.
Due to his height and talent, at the age of nine he played in the group of 3 to 4 years older boys. Thanks to him his team practically always won.
In April 2012, he made a great impression with the young Dragons at the International Lidotournament in Ostia near Rome. In the quarterfinal round he scored 29 points and 15 rebounds in a 99 – 40 win over Stella Marine. He continued with a good game in the semifinal round of the event, and he also contributed 29 points to the victory. In the final round of the Tournament U-13, he was literally invincible. His winning points increased to 54 in a 104 – 76 win over Lazio.
After the dream season 2017-18, Luka applied for NBA Draft as the 12th Slovenian basketball player who participated in it. In the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, on June 21, 2018, he was selected as the 3rd one by Atlanta Hawks. Just a moment before the election, Atlanta and Dallas agreed to replace players, so Luka took third place in Dallas, and Trae Young the 5th in Atlanta. He became the highest selected Slovenian in the history of the NBA League. By entering the NBA, his childhood dreams came true.

Luka Dončić was born in Ljubljana on February 28, 1999. He began to show his love for the basketball very early. From his very first steps the ball was always on the top of the wish list for birthday presents. Although he already had many, he always found one that he had not had yet.
In his childhood, Luka was at first playing also many other sports. He attended Elementary School Mirana Jarca in Ljubljana, where his gym teacher quickly discovered the Luka’s sports potential. So he did not miss any cross or school marathon. His running activities were the first to fill the showcase in his room with medals.
Luka liked martial sports, too. Judo was the one that made him proudly come home with a medal around his neck.
In the first grade of the primary school, he began to show his basketball talent in the basketball school team. At the same time Luka, who was always full of energy, was also training football, handball, tennis and swimming. Over a period of time he insisted on training all those sports but they took him too much time. Because of school obligations he decided to dedicate himself only to basketball. At that time he was the most outstanding in it.
Scouts from a number of European giants clubs were watching Luka for a long time. The most enthusiastic about his coming was the Real Madrid, who contacted Luka and his parents. First, he was invited to represent their colors at the Cup tournament, and then the final agreement with Real was reached. Luka signed a contract with Real Madrid.
It was Friday, 5 September 2012, when only 13 years old Luka Dončič left his homeland and went to Madrid. Luka lived in a boarding school with other young players. He attended an international school where lectures were in English and Spanish. Therefore it was necessary to learn Spanish every day.
He debuted in Spanish league on April 30, 2015, when Real played against Unicaja. At the age of 16 years, 2 months and 2 days, Luka became the youngest player in the history of Real, who played for the club, and the third youngest, who played in the league. He entered the statistics with a three-pointer he scored only 16 seconds after he entered the game. In the first season (2015-16) in the Endesa League, Luka played in 31 games and in 14 minutes average scored 4.9 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2 assists per game. He became the Spanish champion. In the finals they beat Barcelona. At the age of 17 years and 115 day he signed up in the history of basketball as the youngest winner of the final games.
