Standing ovations for Dirk as Mavs lose in Boston
The Dallas Mavericks couldn’t keep up with the Boston Celtics on Friday. Boston won easily 114-93 despite Kyrie Irving having to sit out the game because of an eye injury. Dallas remains the worst team on the road in the league 3-17.
Luka Dončić scored 19 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Western Conference Rookie of the Month scored at least 15 points in the last 11 straight games.
Dirk Nowitzki failed to score points at TD Garden, but received standing ovations. Celtics fans chanted his name in the final minute, hoping he would make a shot in potentially his final appearance in Boston. Nowitzki hadn’t made a decision yet about a 22nd season. “It’s sweet when not only your home fans, but fans on the road appreciate what you’ve done for the last two decades,” Nowitzki said. “I appreciate the fans of Boston. Unfortunately, I’m really disappointed I couldn’t even make one. They’re great sports fans. It’s a great sports town. They know the game and they appreciate the game.”
The Mavs end a four-game road trip on Saturday at Philadelphia.
